Christian Van Schijndel’s burlesque performances as the Gentleman are too classy to be strip, too rock’n roll to be bourgeois and too queer to be mainstream.
They are a genuine in your face body art and costume extravaganzas. Since his debut at Copenhagens most renowned and established lesbian bar in 2005 Christian Van Schindel has performed at queer festivals, night clubs and cabarets around Europe such as Duckie London, Metropolis London, The Albert Docks Liverpool, Saturator Warsaw, House of Shame. Berlin, Manifest Copenhagen and not to mention frequent performances at Warehouse9 in Copenhagen, where he is a resident artist.
Showing his ability to work with both small and large scale audiences one of the highlights of his career has been a performance with Julee Cruise at the Roskilde Festival in 2007 in Denmark for 25.000 people and at the Bang Bang Cabaret at the Bellevue Theater in 2008.

Christian van Schijndels burlesque-optrædender er for stilfulde til at kunne kaldes ’strip’, for rock’n’roll til at kunne ses som borgerlige og for queer til at være mainstream; hans flot opsatte kostumeshows er vaskeægte kropskunst. Siden sin debut i 2005 på Københavns mest navnkundige og veletablerede lesbiske bar Vela har han optrådt på queer-festivaler, natklubber og cabareter over hele Europa – såsom Duckie London, Metropolis London, The Albert Docks Liverpool, Saturator Warsaw, House of Shame i Berlin og Manifest København – for ikke at nævne hans hyppige optrædender på warehouse9 i København, som han er fast tilknyttet.
The Gentlemans evne til at arbejde med både små og store publikumm illustreres af, at to af hans karrieres højdepunkter indtil nu har været hans optræden med Julee Cruise foran 25.000 mennesker på Roskilde Festival i 2007 og hans show i Bellevue-teatrets Bang Bang Cabaret i efteråret 2008.
